You Really Need To See This

Have you seen the Express’s front page on this day, 8th July 2010? That’s 20-Fucking-10. The 21st Century.

The Gays and the Foreigns! Two Bigotries No Waiting!

It’s a perfect storm of fucktardary.

My impotent rage means that I am unable to construct a coherent sentence about this, but I thought that it was important that you got a look at it.

UPDATE:

I’m feeling slightly more coherent now. Some people on the interweb are questioning the way people are directing their anger and disbelief about the Express article.

“Surely the anger should be directed towards Judge Rodgers, not the Express? It was him banging on about Kylie and cocktails. The Express was just reporting what he said.” is the general theme.

While the judge made spectacularly ill thought comments relying on stereotypes, he upheld appeals by the two men in the story. My problem with the Express is their use of the comments on their front page and their outrage at the prospect that people who could be criminalised, tortured or executed because of their sexual orientation should seek asylum in the United Kingdom.

Oh, bugger it. Anton Vowl – as usual – sums it up much better here.

  1. I too was filled with rage, seriously considering a complaint, to someone, somewhere, grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

  2. YES, It’s the whole tone of ‘how stupid, how ridiculous, to need asylum because you are GAY’ that annoyed me – I thought the stereotyping rather silly for a judge to use but not especially offensive.

In other news I’m now looking forward to the HUGE influx of foreign gays! as predicted. i am planning a huge party, with light-up cocktail glasses and Abba music. Do come along, and bring a gay friend (but not anyone that reads the Daily Express, they are not having even the left over cocktail sticks from the cheese and pineapple hedgehog)

  3. What is the actual point of the Daily Express? What purpose does it serve?
